Fly SFO → Kalispell/Glacier Park Intl (FCA). United nonstop, ~2h 40m. Pick up rental car — all major agencies at the terminal. Drive 15 min north to Whitefish.
Start early (before 7am) to beat parking at trailheads. Enter at West Glacier and drive up to Logan Pass, stopping for hikes along the way. Remember: 3-hour parking limit at Logan Pass starting July 1 — plan accordingly or take the shuttle.
Morning rafting on the Middle Fork of the Flathead River, then a relaxed afternoon on the water.
This is one of the best days of the trip. You'll drive the full Going-to-the-Sun Road from west to east — 50 miles of the most spectacular mountain road in America. Leave by 8am to beat traffic. This isn't a "driving day" — it's a highlight.
Many Glacier is the most spectacular valley in the park — towering peaks, turquoise lakes, and the best wildlife viewing in Glacier. Arrive early (before 8am) as parking fills fast and the area may temporarily close at capacity. The road from Babb is paved but rough and potholed — drive carefully.
Two Medicine is Glacier's most underrated area — dramatic peaks, fewer crowds, and a very different feel from the busy west side. The drive south on Hwy 89 along the Rocky Mountain Front is gorgeous — open prairie to the east, the wall of mountains to the west. You'll cross the Blackfeet reservation.
The drive back to the airport goes along the southern boundary of the park on Highway 2 — a beautiful road through the Middle Fork Flathead River valley. You'll pass through East Glacier and over Marias Pass (5,220 ft, the lowest Continental Divide crossing in the northern Rockies).
